Do you know anyone who would happily pay the full cost for gasoline
or food or clothing? Say, ten dollars a gallon for gas and ten
dollars for a cotton t-shirt. Gas and food, of course, must include
the cost of the present Iraq investment.

We or rather our kids will be paying that price as they are forced to pay the deferred taxes that are currently paying for the Iraq debacle.

Or circumvented altogether. I saw a program the other day that was talking about basically implanting a computer in the brain providing a for real neural network where you can think and connect to the internet and google to your hearts content to have information at your axontips.

This is literally mind blowing..the first step to telepathic communication...

For me, the Internet contributes to my happiness but is not essential to it. Information is power; better decisions are made with better information. Whether we are merely titillated or actually empowered by the plethora of information provided by the Internet, I feel that few of us would willingly give it up.

It would be hard. I agree with you, though, that it is not essential. When I am offline, I miss the computer as a resource. If I need to plan activities for 10 days or 13 days out, the only info source is the internet. Weather information is the main thing I miss, that and being able to instantly find an answer to a question.
