Ah, yes, I've had that conversation more than once. My mother has come round
though to the way I plant peppers -- mine are thicker-walled and bigger than
those she raises, and she's no slouch as a gardener.

My first garden on my own was very much like those I grew up with. Long rows of the same thing with plenty of room between. As I started reading things like Organic Gardening and some of their early books I learned a different way. A little experimenting and I learned to use the intensive methods but I could not convince anyone else even when they could see the results in few weeds.
