Not only are lots of junk foods high in sodium, many are very low in potassium. I checked out the data for corn chips and potato chips, and while both have about the same amount of salt, their sodium:potassium ratios are very different. That's because potatoes are an extreme source of potassium, but grains have very little.

I tend to view this as proof of the superiority of a diet based on roots. They're so high in potassium that you can salt them normally without ruining your health.
