"Dwarf citrus trees require periodic repotting (every third year or so.) The dwarfing characteristics are the result of keeping the tree root bound in the container, so do not used too large of a planter. They have a shallow root system, so a wide diameter container is far better than a deep one."

Well, here is yet another example of why we must use multiple sources to seek truth:
"The dwarf quality of these citrus trees is achieved by grafting orchard-proven cultivars onto dwarf root stock. Although dwarf citrus do very well planted directly into the ground, they are most commonly planted in ornamental containers, such as a 1/2 oak wine barrel. Dwarf citrus trees can grow to eight feet in the ground, but will stay much smaller if container-planted."
