Have just about decided the answer is a simple block of wood stained to match cabinets. Glue the stone on one side, drill holes and insert screws through the drawer or door front into the wood block.

Take a walk in te desert and find some nice looking sticks, some large and some small. Build a jig with the holes at the desired spacing. Cut or sand the sticks to get the desired flat spot, use the jig to drill holes and countersink the hole. Using a couple of smaller shorter sticks, drill a hole lengthways. Now you have the parts, set a short screw to hold the short pieces to the long. Glue the rocks as desired and you are set.
