I had to do some car work today and was jacking up the front. I have a small floor jack and every time I have to use it I wonder why I didn't pick up a real one when I had the chance. I can remember a couple at auctions and down at Harbor Freight they have one that (at the time) I could have afforded.
My trouble is I can always think of a tool I need more & a hundred dollars + is a bit to drop on a tool that I don't use often. But when I do use the compromise jack (& it does the job) I regret not getting the better one. When it's under the bench I don't think of it at all <g>.

I put my good floor jack in storage thinking that I would not need it, besides I had a little thing that did well, not great but well. Then when I tried to use the little one it developed a dead spot and stopped working at all. Wouldn't you know it, I suddenly needed a floor jack all over the place. The one is storage is so buried that it would take a major operation to get it out.

I was suddenly faced with a trailer tire with a rip in the side wall, a crawler track needing put back on, having to put aired up tires on a car, and having to put air bags on the back of the pickup. So I saw an HF sale ad and took the bait. Money is a real problem but so is weight and space. HF had one of those cheap aluminum "racing style" jacks on sale so I picked one up. It does the job but the crawler tweaked it a bit. It is a compromise, a bit expensive but I wanted something that would be light, compact, and lift the loaded pickup is needed. Cheap had to lose.
