I'd agree with Catriona that Edinburgh Botanic Garden and RHS Wisley
are well worth visiting. How the gardens in Scotland look in early
May will be very dependent on the Spring weather. A late season may
mean that there's not quite so much to see in the more exposed
gardens.

If you are heading far north, Inverewe is one of the better known
Scottish gardens (warmed by the gulf stream), and looked good when I
visited in late June. Checking individual gardens' websites might
give a better idea of what you might see at the time of your visit.

In early May the Dutch bulbfields should also still be in bloom.
