Since so many chemicals have been removed from use this may be a real problem.  My first choice would have been to research Merit since it is systemic but as of April Merit is not a restricted use pesticide on Long Island and can only be used by NYS certified applicators with all use reproted to the DEC.  Blue sticky traps may reduce your populations but will not eliminate them and you need to have them installed at the proper time in the thrips life cycle or they will be useless..the buds are infected very early in the season and as I recall the thrips are also vectors for diseases and virus.
 
I do have a good contact for you that I just spoke with and will send you the info off list.  He did mention that there is an organic product available from Gardens Alive that he thinks will work.
 
When I managed the perennial operations at Martin Viettes we had a five acre plot of daylilies that we used as a nursery and potted up right from the beds.  When thribs were discovered about 15 years ago the entire collection was destroyed.
