I just spoke to Bill Radler and asked him why deadheading is not
recommended for Knock OutT. He says that most gardeners tend to prune
to the 5th petal, cutting off leaves and a major source of food for
Knock OutT. For whatever reason, Knock OutT doesn't put much energy into
producing hips so there is no need to worry about them. But the leaves
are important to producing more flowers. If you want your rose to look
tidy, just pop of the spent flower head with your fingers. To keep the
3-4 foot compact habit, he recommends cutting Knock OutT back to 10"
when the forsythia bloom, otherwise it will "grow and grow," reaching
upwards of 9-10' tall.

So that's straight from the horse's mouth.

Subject: [gwl-g] Black Spot Resistant Roses

Since the conversation lately has been about roses and particularly
disease
resistant ones on this list and the GWL list, you may be interested in
the
list compiled by a researcher at Univ. of KY. It includes all disease
resistant roses, by category.
