I don't know about a genetic method, but I do know that tomatoes sprayed
with Messenger, the harpin protein discovered by Cornell and distributed
by EDEN Biosciences, gives tomatoes a big boost -- turning up their
immune systems and growth mechanisms. They grow bigger, produce more
flowers and tomatoes, and have a longer shelf life once picked. The
tomatoes can be eaten immediately after the product has dried. Anyone
who wants to try it, just drop me a line.

Would anyone happen to know if this cover crop was used between the
tomato
plants while they were growing or just in a field that had been enriched
through the use of a cover crop before/after the tomatos were planted?
Sorry if I'm being dense but I don't see the answer here. I have used
cover
crops in a fallow bed but the places between the plants get lettuces,
herbs,
and marigolds. Of course, I don't use a fungicide and only rarely
fertilize
(although I do work in compost and manure every year), so...
