update: after reading the emails on the orange coneflower, i went out and looked and discovered i actually have 3 buds right now, so mine seems to be doing well. i live fairly close to Lake Michigan in Chicago where the soil turns to pure sand 15-18 inches down, so there's really good drainage. Most people in the region have serious clay.

I believe Monrovia did the propagation on this one but that the plant's in short supply so only a limited number of garden centers are selling it this year. Carolyn Ulrich
