Hello Doreen,
I have not used mycorrhizal
fungi around here, either in my potting up for the nursery or the garden,
so can not comment on its effectiveness. However, my first thought is Roy Klehm
grows some darn nice peony. Much of what you are observing is his care to see
that you get large healthy roots with lots of stored energy and at least 3 eyes
or more. What you see in the way of bloom and foliage now is the results of his
care last year, for the most part.
