Sandy,
Be careful about citing anything from the MSU Master Gardener's data.
It was developed over 13 years ago and so doesn't come close to being up
to date. The other problem is that most Master Gardener texts are
written by people who are expert in commercial agriculture and just try
to dumb down and downsize the commercial information. Nancy and I both
teach Master Gardener classes in Lapeer County and we generally ignore
what is in the text and develop our own class outline ourselves.
When Sluggo came on the market, I decided DE was a waste of time and
money.

Margaret,
Where is the picture of the slug crawling over a razor
blade? I would like to see it, however, I'm still not
convinced. Diotomaceous earth works for me and it
is taught by the MSU Extension in Michigan in the
Master Gardener class as one of the many effective
controls for slugs.
see this site for more ideas...I haven't tried the copper:

I don't know what our size slugs are compared to the
rest of the country, but they do a lot of damage.
