Instead of attempting to place the betrayal in Gethsemane in a historical
context, and thereby interpret the passage, I suggest a consideration of the
narrative structure itself as the primary means of interpreting Mark 14.43-50.
i.e., There are three plans at work here
1. Judas and the armed crowd have a plan
2. The disciples have no plan
3. Jesus recognizes God's plan from scripture
