If telnet cannot connect to the port, FreeTDS cannot connect to the
port. The TDS protocol is connection-oriented; FreeTDS needs TCP.

I think the problem is that you're using Sybase SQL Anywhere 5.0.5, and
I overlooked the fact that that version doesn't natively support the TDS
protocol.

If you have a gadget apparently called "SQL Anywhere Open Server", it
seems you can use that as a gateway between the 5.0.5 server and
TDS-based clients.
