If I connect using this:

tsql -H MySqlServer -p 1433 -U monitor -P monitor

it connects fine.

If I try this:

tsql -S MySqlServer -U monitor -P monitor

with a freetds.conf entry like this:

# A typical Microsoft SQL Server 2000 configuration
[MySqlServer]
host = MySqlServer
port = 1433
tds version = 8.0

I get this:

locale is "C"
charset is "ANSI_X3.4-1968"
src/tds/login.c: tds_connect: 192.168.0.1:4000: Connection refused
Msg 20009, Level 9, State 0, Server OpenClient, Line 0
Server is unavailable or does not exist.
There was a problem connecting to the server

If I include -I /usr/local/freetds/etc/freetds.conf it works. Is there
an environment variable I need to set. I saw some documentation that
came with freetds that said to set my SYBASE variable to /usr/local, but
if freetds actually resides in /usr/local/freetds should it be set to
that? That still doesn't work though.

I have a new SQL Server installation that is running on the default port
(1433) that I cannot connect to. I can connect using TSQL that comes
with FreeTDS 0.62.4 and I can connect to another installation of SQL
Server just fine. I keep getting this error:

src/tds/login.c: tds_connect: 192.168.0.1:4000: Connection refused
DBI connect('server=servername','loginid',...) failed: (no error string)
at ./check_mssql line 99
error: OpenClient message: LAYER = (0) ORIGIN = (0) SEVERITY = (78)
NUMBER = (41)
Server servername, database
Message String: Server is unavailable or does not exist.

Show us your tsql command and the freetds.conf entry. You're trying to
connect to port 4000, which probably isn't the port your Microsoft
server is listening to.

If you use "-S servername", you're referring to a freetds.conf entry.
If you use "-H hostname -p port", you're not. The -p option is ignored
when used with -S.
