I'm trying to connect to SQL Server 8.0 on XP PRO from
Linux - Redhat 8.0 using freetds 0.62.4. Both
computers are on the same network and I can both ping
the box with SQL Server 8.0 and telnet to SQL Server
8.0 using the IP and port.

I keep getting Login incorrect ... even though I'm
sure this a correct login. Also, I 've set SQL server
to allow SQL Server and Windows authentication. I
don't think the request is getting to SQL Server since
I don't see any replies in the tds log file....

You're right, you're not reaching the server. Something is answering
the port, true, but it's not responding. An invalid login would
engender an 0xAA packet response, indicating the error with a message.

>From the log, I can only suppose the server is not listening on 1533.
