If you turn on the TDSDUMP log, I think you'll see that tds_iconv_init()
returned an error indicating a fatal problem using the iconv library.
Without more information, I can't say whether that's because you didn't
recompile on the second machine. Based on your description, it seems to
me you should be able to copy the files, assuming all the requisite
libraries have matched versions and reside in the same directories.
FreeTDS can't use the Solaris libiconv. You need either GNU's, or to
configure without libiconv.
