Yes, I am using TDS 5.0. I can't even connect to the database with 4.2.

I guess I should have been clearer in my email. FreeTDS is not causing
Netcool to crash. The first time this happened, the DB died for an
unrelated reason. When I was doing testing to isolate the problem, I
was shutting down the database myself.

My problem is that it doesn't look like FreeTDS is detecting that the
database has died. My script is supposed to try to reconnect when calls
to the DB functions return errors. Since it doesn't look like the
functions are ever returning (based on the TDSDUMP in my original post),
my script just hangs.

You're not using TDS 4.2 by any chance? You need TDS 5.0.

It's troubling that we're crashing your server (well, any server,
really).
I'd need to see your complete TDSDUMP log, so I can analyze the
protocol
vis-a-vis the spec to see if anything seems amiss.

I don't know anything about Netcool. If it relies on Sybase OpenServer,
there may be protocol elements we don't support.
