Seems pretty unlikely. That would break a heap of existing code. Also,
there's no indication even in the SQL Server 2000 online docs of such a
deprecation. In fact, the notion of deprecating output parameters seems
so odd that I'm beginning to think that I must have misunderstood what
you were saying about Sybase doing so.
