It's not possible to patch 0.53 with 0.60 features. The datatype handling
was heavily revised; see

to confirm. See also the 0.60 release notes and ChangeLog.
The next version (which we'll probably call 0.61) will include still more
fixes: output parameters of stored procedures, compute rows, much improved
error/message handling, and (I hope) dynamic SQL support. Also better API
documentation and greater stability. Before the snows melt would be a good
bet.
