In case anyone is considering offering an opinion, some data:

$ perl -ne'if(s/^(\t+).+\n/$1/){ s/\t/./g; $T{$_}++;} END{foreach (keys %T){
print "$_:$T{$_}$/"}}' src/*/*.c |sort
.......:5
......:23
.....:160
....:646
...:1843
..:3310
.:4676

What that says is, there are 4676 instances of lines with one level of
indentation, and 5 with seven (probably alignment, really).

More interesting, there 646 lines with 4 leading tabs. Whether that's
indentation or wrapping, it favors longer lines, especially now that tabs
are wider.

Nick, do you see a way to tell indent, "wrap it at 132, but don't unwrap
anything"? I wouldn't want to tell anyone we'll accept patches with 240
character lines, but OTOH if someone felt that

if (something long and complicated
|| other thing) {
...
}

was a nice formatting choice in a particular situation, I wouldn't want
indent to undent it.

But I wouldn't mind terribly if it did.

Longer lines allow for more flexibility. And I promise not to say anything
more on the subject.
