No need to be short. My tables are most likely not the problem. I have
another server which is talking fine with TDS 7.0 with the same database
structure.

Answer to your last question of data types being longer than 255: NO.

Unless you answer the questions presented to you, it will be difficult
to tell. Let's try again.

What do your tables look like? To be more specific: give us the DDL for
the tables for which queries are failing. Do any of the tables have
properties which version 4.2 of the TDS protocol is not capable of
handling? For example, do you have UNICODE columns, or CHAR or VARCHAR
columns longer than 255?
