The Forest Talks

a series of guides hikes in heritage forests of the Finger Lakes

NEXT HIKE:

Tuesday, August 23 with Lance Ebel of New Leaf Environmental, discussing management for wildlife at the Pine Tree Wildlife Preserve in the Town of Ithaca.

5:30 - 8:00pm

(always the 4th Tuesday of the month)

The forest and its inhabitants have a lot to tell us about the places we call home, and we are fortunate to have some of the most unique and species-diverse forests of the entire east coast in the Southern Tier of New York.

These walks bring participants to some of the more majestic forests of the finger lakes. Local ecologists & foresters will be our guides as we learn to read the language of the forest and discuss how to apply our observations to management.

This month, we learn from Land Ebel of New leaf Environmental, Lance is a dedicated, all-around natural resource professional. It has been a lifelong focus to improve our understanding and management of wildlife and natural resources. He approaches this challenge by combining a thorough knowledge of forestry and wildlife biology.

Having grown up in the backwoods of Newfield, NY, he understands the challenges and perspectives of northeast landowners, and aims to provide affordable solutions to the challenges they face. By working with various programs (such as current use and cost-share), state and federal agencies (such as the DEC and NRCS), and non-pro.t organizations (such as the Upper Susquehanna Coalition and NYFOA), he hopes to bring greater opportunites to landowners interested in improving their property for forestry and wildlife.

UPCOMING HIKES:

Sept 27: Lessons from the Old Growth (Enfield) – Mike Deminn

October 25: Collecting and Saving Wild Seed (Trumansburg) - Sean Dembrosky

COST:

$20 per hike, $30 for two people.
