The following events are sponsored by or offered in partnership with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County, and concern invasive species that have been identified in or are expected to be a threat to Tompkins County.  Please address questions to the contacts listed below.

Emerald Ash Borer Educational Workshop
Tuesday March 27, 6:30-8:30pm
at Cooperative Extension Education Center, 615 Willow Avenue, Ithaca NY
Join City of Ithaca Foresty Technician Jeanne Grace and Cornell Entomologist Mark Whitmore for this FREE information session on the Emerald Ash Borer, a pest that is likely to invade ash trees our area in the next 10 years. Emerald Ash Borer was found in Western NY last year and it spreads at a rate of about 20 miles per year unless it is spread via infested firewood.  This workshop provides instruction on how to monitor for the pest, the life cycle and what to expect once it arrives.  Open  to nursery and tree specialists, and the general public.  Note: EAB only affects ASH, so if your property does not have any ash trees, other trees are not affected. Because space is limited, we ask that you call (607) 272-2292 to pre-register. Email Maria Christian at mjc72 AT cornell.edu for more information.

Thursday, April 12, 4:30-6:00pm

There will be more in-depth information with a longer question and answer session than offered at the Hydrilla Happy Hours. Hosted by the Tompkins County Environment Management Council, Cornell Plantations, the Hydrilla Task Force and CCE-Tompkins.  For more information, contact Sharon Anderson at Tompkins County Cooperative Extension, 272-2292, ska2 AT cornell.edu, or browse http://ccetompkins.org/hydrilla.
