Free Movie Screening:
Empowered: Power from the People
5:30 PM Weds. April 4th, 2012
Cornell University, Mann Library, Stern Seminar Room 160
Homegrown Documentary Energizes Audiences to Go Renewable. Locally produced
and directed (by our very own Cornell alum Shira Evergreen), this feature
length documentary tells the story of our community's role in the energy
independence revolution. From solar and wind to veggie oil and geothermal,
"Empowered: Power from the People <http://empoweredthemovie.com/>" shows how
in spite of being one of the cloudiest, least windy places in the country,
Tompkins County residents are freeing themselves from their addiction to
fossil fuels, demonstrating just how accessible and effective renewable
alternatives can be.
After the screening, Shira will be joined by fellow alum Dominic
Frongillo<http://dominicfrongillo.org> (Town Councilor and Deputy Town
Supervisor of Caroline New York) and Art Weaver (CEO and founder of Renovus
Energy<http://renovusenergy.com>) to talk about the film, the work it
showcases, and how it is being used to inspire others to become more energy
independent. There will also be an opportunity for attendees to engage in
discussion, share work they are doing, and learn how they can become more
involved in supporting sustainable energy alternatives.
Co-sponsored by KyotoNOW!, Engineers for a Sustainable World Cornell, Cornell
Wind Power and Finger Lakes Bioneers.
Hosted by Mann Library as part of it's Sustainability Month and Resilient
Communities outreach programming, "facilitating insight and exchange across
campus and the communities we serve, with a focus on capacity building,
helping communities become healthy, sustainable, just and equitable on their
own terms, while building on existing assets, including those of the Land
Grant System."
Directions: Mann
