Coping with Household Insect Pests!
Tuesday, March 8, 6:30-8:30pm
at CCE-Tompkins Education Center, 615 Willow Avenue, Ithaca NY
Cornell Entomologist Carolyn Klass will focus her discussion on the growing bedbug problem, carpenter ants, and Indian meal moths, but questions on other household insect pests are welcome.  Learn how to prevent infestations, and what to do if they happen.  Pre-registration recommended so we can provide enough handouts. Food Gardening Panel Discussion-Focus on FRUITS!

Don’t miss this panel discussion by several experienced food gardeners!  Master Gardeners and others with years of food growing experience will highlight some advanced ways to maximize your crop of veggies or fruit and extend the growing season.  Special emphasis on growing fruit at home this year!  This workshop will assume that attendees have had some food growing experience. Garden Travel Slide Show: Botanical Travel to the Finger Lakes (and Beyond)

at CCE-Tompkins Education Center, 615 Willow Avenue, Ithaca NY
This slide presentation by Daniel Segal of The Plantsmen Nursery will feature some of the most beautiful native species that make Ithaca and surrounding areas truly a travel destination. For a fun twist, we will also look at some related species from other regions, and discuss some basics regarding relationships between these plants and our own. A light dose of plant geography and ecology with a heavy dose of pretty plant slides.  Refreshments and time to socialize will follow the talk.  Free and open to the public but a $3 suggested donation helps support the Horticulture Program.  Call Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County at (607) 272-2292 for more information.

Gardens-4-Humanity Garden Educator Training
Mondays March 14 & 28, & April 11, 6:00-9:00pm, Saturday April 2 10:00am-4:00pm
at GIAC (Greater Ithaca Activities Center), 318 North Albany Street, Ithaca
A FREE 15-hour training to create more garden educators in our community.Participants must attend all 4 sessions! This 'garden based learning' training covers topics including gardening basics, effectively teaching kids and adults in and out of the classroom setting, and garden and food related activities. Fruit Tree Pruning Workshop

This fun, educational workshop is ideal for those that are new to fruit growing as well as the seasoned fruit grower. Instructor Rick Reisinger will demonstrate pruning techniques on apples, stone fruits, nuts and berries throughout his family orchard. Other topics to be covered include grafting and apple tree and renovating an older tree to improve fruit production. This is an outdoor demonstration; participants should dress for the weather. Dazzling Dahlias, Colorful Cannas!

Cannas, callas, tuberous begonias, dahlias, caladiums, lilies - the list of summer-blooming bulbs is long! Some are winter-hardy; some need frost-free warm weather but bloom for months.  Some like it hot! Others flourish in dappled shade.  Come explore the wide variety of fun summer bulbs we can grow.  Pre-registration is recommended; $5/person. Easy Perennials for Your Landscape

Perennial flowers are nice, but you don't have a lot of time.  which perennials are long-lived, healthy and easy to grow?  This class will cover a couple dozen easy and durable perennials and also offer tips for lower maintenance.  Pre-registration is recommended.  $5/person.
