The Sustainability Café on Monday, November 1st, will feature Karl North
speaking on “Redesigning Farming Systems for Sustainability in the
Post-Petroleum Era”. The Café will be held in the Center for Natural Sciences
Room 112 from 4:00-5:00PM. This event is free and open to the public.

Karl North has a decidedly eclectic background. He completed graduate study in
social anthropology and African Studies. He spent six years farming in the
French Pyrenees doing donkey agriculture. Karl has spent twenty-five years
designing and operating Northland Sheep Dairy in Cortland County. He currently
teaches the ecological agriculture course in the undergraduate program in
Environmental Science at Binghamton University, and writes on agricultural
issues for TCLocal, a group of area citizens who are researching various
aspects of energy descent and its socio-economic imperatives for Tompkins
County.
