Lynn:
Bruce Metzger and Richard Oster told me several years ago that had Wolfgang
Wiefel never published another article after publishing 'The Jewish Community in
Ancient Rome and the Origins of Roman Christianity, he still would have produced
one of the top articles on Romans in the twentieth century. Since I find
much to admire in the book called 'The Romans Debate,' ed Karl P.
Donfried, I refer you to this source (Hendrickson Publishers, [Augsbburg P
H, 1977], 1991) for the article. The book also contains a terrific
bibliography. The other book worth looking at is 'Judaism and
Christianity in FirstCentury Rome, ed by Karl Donfried and Peter
Richardson, Eerdmans, 1998. I think the article by James Walters
rates a full read by anyone rethinking older paradigms on
Romans.
