Would there be any reason to expect the use of a crucifix as a Christian
symbol that early? My impression was that it was the chi-rho symbol that
was generally used as a Christian symbol during the first several
centuries, and that the crucifix did not achieve prominence until well
after Constantine (who saw a chi-rho rather than a crucifix)?
