With apologies for crossposting.
As is well known, in 2 Cor 5:21 Paul notes that Jesus was one who "knew
no sin" (TON MH GNONTA hAMARTIAN). Is there any chance that what Paul is
speaking of here is that Jesus was never caught up in, and in fact
renounced, the sort of zealousness for the Law that resulted in Paul's
persecution of the church and which later fuelled the Zealot cause
against Rome?
My reasoning behind this question is this:
For Paul, Jesus is one who "knew" no hAMARTIA
In Paul's post Damascus eyes, the epitome of hAMARTIA, for him at least,
was the sort of stance, born out of Zealousness for the Law, that saw
that the proper way to treat Israel's enemies was to destroy them .
Therefore, when Paul says that Jesus "knew" no "sin", he was saying that
Jesus repudiated the sort of Zealousness that Paul had once embodied.
Any validity in this, do you think? Or an I way off base?
Yours,
Jeffrey
