In response to Brian's questions about the opponents in Phil 1:16ff. I
think it is clear that they cannot be identified by their theology. They
are part of none of the groups often seen as those who opposed Paul. This
seems to be the case because Paul says they preach Christ and they preach a
message he is glad they are spreading. Paul cannot say this about those who
are preaching in Galatia and not even about those he refers to as "dogs" in
Phil 3. These "opponents" may reject something about Paul, but he seems to
think they preach the gospel, in spite of themselves (and their opposition
to him).
