In the case of Luke, the infancy narrative at the very least is
replete with allusions to both canonical and non-canonical Daniel
traditions. See, for example, R. Laurentin, Structure et Theologie de
Luc I-II (Paris: Gabalda, 1957). The language of 'understanding' in
this Gospel bears strong similarities to the Theodotion of Daniel.
Matthew is very keen on proof-texting, but this is not so clear in
Luke. However, Luke's picture of Gabriel, for example, draws more on
the presentation of heavenly revelation in Isaiah 6, Daniel 7-12 and
Ezekiel by means of allusion. Luke's allusions extend beyond our
canon. The way his picture of Jesus depends on ideas about Moses in
the Second Temple period relates to ideas found in Josephus, Philo
and Ps-Philo's LAB as much as the LXX.
