We have extensive experience using
potassium products to clean up powdery mildew on wine grapes. We’ve used Kaligreen (which is
approved for organic use) for several years. Usually, a single application of 2.5 #/acre
is sufficient to eradicate PM.
However, with persistent infections we’ve gone as high as 5#/acre
and had to repeat the application up to three times; each application being
separated by two to three days. We’ve also used the fertilizer potassium
carbonate (a significant portion becomes bicarbonate as it’s sprayed),
but this is NOT organically approved.
Currently, we prefer to use monopotassium phosphate (the proprietary
form called KEEP is labeled as a fungicide). Even though it also is not organically
approved, it’s a great way to deliver important foliar nutrients and
blast PM with the same spray. Bear in mind that NONE of these approaches
offer any residual protection—this is an eradicant only. We are currently using this approach to
supplement the use of CT as a foliar fungicide. -----Original Message----- Forwarded with Tom's permission - Elaine,
