Hi, Mark and Kristin and Ms. Begumisa: Thanks for the update. We'll
monitor your site for updates. Love the work you're doing.
Open Studios has set up what might be described as a global Help Desk.
We provide technical support and training for those who want to build
and operate a community-based recording studio. For example, if Maria
(Beatrice Begumisa) was able to obtain a computer, we would then walk
her through the steps to load it with Free or Open Source Software
(F/OSS) using Stanford University's Center for Computer Research in
Music and Acoustics (CCRMA). This would enable the community to produce
high quality CDs, DVDs, public service announcements, tv shows, radio
shows, world-class fund-raising campaigns, marketing programs for small
business, even full-featured documentaries. The computer requirements
are that of a PII or better/newer. Once set up, it's just a click of
the mouse to maintain state-of-the-art. Training takes place remotely
through the use of VNC. Thus, just a donated computer, time, and effort
is all that is required of a community to be successful. Having said
that, you demonstrate just how much time and effort, and even money is
necessary in developing nations.
When the opportunity pops up, and it will, I hope you'll let us
participate with one or more computers in Uganda, or elsewhere. Ms.
Begumisa is located in Kampala, and would love the opportunity to obtain
a computer to move forward.
Respectfully,
Tom Poe
