Hi: The obvious is not overlooked by big media. The Digital Age
requires new business models. The problem with online music, is the
business model favors the individual [after all, that's what the
computer empowers]. That business model goes something like this:
* Individual slates some songs for free downloading under Creative
Commons license
* Audience builds, and his web site offers purchase of other songs,
DVD's, recording merchandise, etc.

Open Studios is one demonstration of how this model is being shaped.
Within the coming weeks, the repository blossoms [launches], and what
will happen, is the recognition that online music will soar as more
sites begin to develop business strategies around such portals. Bottom
line, though, is record labels lose, and individual artists win. Smart
investors will begin to deal with middlemen who sponsor up and coming
artists, rather than investing in record labels, per se.

The computer enables recording of high quality CD's and DVD's right on
the kitchen table. Bad news for RIAA/MPAA, but good news for investors
and new business models.

Just my biased $.02
Thanks,
Tom Poe
