Hello everyone!

Here is the September newsletter for Internationalist Books and
Community Center. You can also follow us on Facebook for more news and
info about events at the shop:www.facebook.com/internationalistbooks.

September is a busy month, as we combine our normal events and
activities with a month long fundraising drive and special benefit
events to support our move. Learn more about the fundraising campaign
here
<http://www.internationalistbooks.org/2014/08/29/30-day-online-fundraiser/>.

We're thrilled to announce that we have set a date for the grand opening
in the new space. Join us for a day of festivities to celebrate our
relocation on Sunday, September 28th!

In this email you'll find:

1) Ways to Help Support the 30 Day Fundraising Campaign

. *Commit to specific publicity in your own social networks.* Share our
updates on your Facebook. Post
about us once a week on your blog. Mention us to your colleagues,
neighbors, friends, family. Ask us for
flyers and promotional materials you can display in your business,
church, or home. Be creative! Every
bit of buzz will help us meet our goals.

. *Consider hosting a fundraising event.* Vimala Rajendran is already
planning two benefits for us at the
Curryblossom Caf. If five more businesses or organizations follow suit,
we'll be well on our way to
financial sustainability. Fundraising events serve two purposes: they
raise needed cash, and just as
importantly they make this transition feel real to everyone involved. If
you can't put together an event
right away, don't worry. We want to keep fundraisers going monthly
throughout the fall. Schedule one
now!

. *Share your personal passion.* During our funds drive, we'll be
soliciting short video interviews and
written anecdotes from those whose lives have been touched by the store.
Let us know right away if you
can contribute. Additionally, we'll be asking for book recommendations
accompanied by short personal
reviews to highlight our partnerships in the new space. Start dreaming
now about what you want to see
on our shelves.

2) UNC's Radical Rush Kicks Off September 2

The UNControllables, an anarchist student group at UNC Chapel Hill, is
proud to announce that the second annual Radical Rush Week will take
place September 2-11, 2014.

Radical Rush Week is a time to find out about all the awesome activist,
radical, and revolutionary groups at UNC and in the broader Chapel
Hill-Carrboro community. There will be teach-ins, gatherings, and music;
events on and off campus; and there may even be some surprises! It's a
time to find each other.

The UNControllables have also produced a new Disorientation Guide, a
program of all the events during Radical Rush Week as well as a resource
guide that can be used for the rest of the semester. You can check it
out here:http://uncontrollableschapelhill.tumblr.com/post/94696172428

You can pick up printed copies of the Disorientation Guide, plus other
Radical Rush Week promotional materials at Internationalist Books and
Community Center.

5) National Weekend of Action Against the AETA, Presentation September 6

Sat September 6, 2014
Internationalist Bookstore & Community Center
3 p.m.

Join Triangle Chance for All at Internationalist Books as we take part
in a national weekend of action against the Animal Enterprise Terrorism
Act (AETA). Passed in 2006, AETA makes it illegal for individuals to
engage in any activities that have "the purpose of damaging or
interfering with the operations of an animal enterprise." AETA is a key
component of wider "ag-gag" laws that are being passed in states around
the country. Activists are speaking out against censorship for the
benefit of corporate agriculture during events on September 5, 6, and 7.
Our event will feature presentations by several speakers and a
discussion about how to respond to AETA with effective activism and
advocacy.

6) Political Prisoner Letter Writing Night, September 17th

Internationalist Books and Community Center hosts a monthly letter
writing night to write birthday cards and letters to political prisoners
in the U.S. It's a fun way to spend time with other folks who care about
supporting prisoners, and a crucial way to let these brave and amazing
folks know they are loved and never forgotten.

Wednesday, September 17th at 7:00pm

Bring friends, snacks and money to help with postage!

Check out prisonbooks.info every month to find the poster of birthdays
to share with friends or write from home if you can't join us for letter
writing night!

8) Prison Books Workdays Every Sunday, Support Prisoners By Becoming A
Sustaining Donor!

Prison Books Workdays Every Sunday from 1 - 4 in Carrboro. Check out
prisonbooks.info for more information.

For 7 years the Internationalist Prison Books Collective has been sending
books and resource guides, for free, to thousands of prisoners all over
the South. Whether a prisoner is teaching themselves to read, filing a
grievance, or organizing on the inside, we are a lifeline.

We need your help! Due to an increase in requests, we desperately need
people to help open prisoners' letters and fill packages. It's a simple
and fulfilling way to make a difference and show people they aren't
forgotten.

Please make a monetary donation topay for postage and supplies to help
us continue this vital work.
