Hey all,

Thanks to all who came to join us last time at the Mid East Dialogue group!
We had a wonderful chat about US foreign policy with regard to the Middle
East, kept the conversation deep in content, yet light with humor. I can't
wait for this next week's topic.

Week two and three's topic is Israel/Palestine. We will take two weeks (one
dialogue each week) to go over this topic. Once again, we are not in search
of answers, but in search of each other, how we perceive the situation, and
how it relates to our own sense of humanity/our own lives. We will be in
search of another person's story, engaging with them critically yet
respectfully, enabling everyone to have critical knowledge to bring to the
table.

Two weeks is not ample time to scratch the surface on the complexity of the
topic at hand (and perhaps, more time will be apportioned), but perhaps we
will at least start to create connections and unravel the many truths as
they come up for us to continue discussions beyond the group.

The dialogue will take place at Internationalist Books on Monday May 21
(this upcoming Monday) at 8 PM. Healthy snacking will be amply provided.
Come explore the different sentiments on the table, and begin to find
language to connect differing beliefs rather than estrange them. A short
blurb is attached to the end of this message.

Once again, comments, concerns, questions? Email me or call me (919-260-8538)
and let's chat. I'm eager to talk through this! I hope to see you all there
:-)

In peace through diversity,

Hasan Bhatti

Come out on Monday May 21st at 8 PM to take part in a unique forum to voice
your experiences and vantage points on the Middle East Conflict. Too often
do we perceive one another through their language upon a situation, and too
little do we try to understand what is meant below the words. This dialogue,
at its root, will focus on the ability to begin to understand each other's
experience of a contentions conflict within our human lives, to begin to
humanize each other and our perspectives in a conflict whose history is
marred with the opposite. The event will be structured along a
communication agreement before the dialogue that will ensure all who attend
to speak their piece, and will ensure others engage with this perspective
from a vantage point of curiosity rather than a critical eye. This week's
theme: your viewpoints on the situation in Israel and Palestine. Clear
questions and activities will be given to engage us on this subject.
Contact hasan.bhatti327 AT gmail.com for any questions, comments or concerns
regarding the event; he is eager to hear them! I hope you join me in
beginning to see diverging human experiences as a function of stronger
unity.
