Internationalist Books in Chapel Hill seeks vibrant, dedicated
idealist for a part-time finances coordinator position!

Internationalist Books is a volunteer-run collective, a not-for-profit
bookstore, a radical community center, and community owned
cooperative. We provide new and used books and magazines on diverse
subjects from politics and current events to fiction, specializing in
hard to find, alternative, underground, small press, independent, and
nontraditional literature. We also sell sidelines such as
self-published 'zines, postcards, bumper stickers, spoken word CDs and
politically oriented T-Shirts. Read more at
http://www.internationalistbooks.org.

We are looking to hire a part-part-time coordinator to head up the
finances and bookkeeping at the store. Coordinators work three
three-hour shifts per week, one volunteer and two paid, for a total of
nine hours per week, and will receive $8/hour for paid shifts. Please
note that this is NOT a high-paying job; the compensation is more an
expression of appreciation for taking on responsibilities of an
especially dedicated volunteer, NOT a job you can survive on. All
coordinators will work together closely to support store operations as
well as carrying out duties in their individual field of focus.
Current Internationalist volunteers will be given preference, but all
applications will be reviewed. If you're still interested, read on!

All applicants should meet the following qualifications:
-friendly, organized, dependable, and flexible
-able to work as a team, interact with customers, and delegate tasks
to volunteers
-comfortable with progressive, radical, and controversial political ideas
-able to work at least 3 shifts (9 hours) in the store per week, one
volunteer and two paid, plus occasional meetings and outside events
- willing to commit to a minimum of 9 months in the position (but the
longer you can commit, the more competitive of an applicant you'll be!)
-accessible by phone on short notice and living in the area with
reliable transportation
-experience with volunteer coordination, cooperative workplaces,
nonprofits, or bookstores is a major plus!

FINANCES COORDINATOR

The finances coordinator is responsible for keeping Internationalist
Books financially solvent by keeping track of accounting, bill
payment, taxes, cash flow, and expenses.

Duties include: paying bills, maintaining financial records, filing
taxes, preparing budgets and financial reports, leading the
fundraising/grant-writing committee, and supporting our membership
program.

Preferred qualifications include computer skills, especially with
Microsoft Word, Excel, and Quickbooks, and experience with
budgeting/accounting.

*******

We are accepting applications through September 28th, and will begin
interviews immediately. The position begins in the first week of
October.

Interested applicants should submit a resume, reference(s), and a
letter of interest ASAP. For more information or to submit an
application, please email ibooks AT internationalistbooks.org. We will
also accept applications in person at the store (405 W. Franklin St.
in Chapel Hill).
