El Kilombo Intergaláctico Presents:
New Forms of Revolt and Neoliberal Regimes: A Conversation with
Colectivo Situaciones
January 16th, 1 PM, El Kilombo Intergaláctico, 324B W. Geer Street, Durham
Come join us in a conversation regarding the politics of revolt and
resistance in both Latin American and the contemporary U.S.
In the last three decades new forms of resistance have emerged in
Latin America as social movements mobilized seeking to break with the
aggressive neoliberal policies of their governments. Many of these
movements successfully brought new “progressive” governments to power.
After assuming power, however, many of these governments have renewed
neoliberal policies while the movements themselves have been weakened
in part due to their inability to have a coherent position in the face
of these “progressive” governments. As Colectivo Situaciones proposes,
the ensuing “impasse,” between these movements and their governments

political moment that, as we propose to discuss, despite marked
differences, is far from foreign to the current conjuncture in the
United States.
Colectivo Situaciones is a militant research collective based out of
Buenos Aires, Argentina with a long history of ties to Argentinean
social movements. Their most recent book, Conversations in the
Impasse, is a series of conversations with intellectuals worldwide on
the ambiguous contemporary global political moment. Their other work
includes essays and books, most famously La Hipótesis 891, and
Genocide in the Neighborhood (soon to appear in English). More of
