---DETAILS---
Tuesday, August 31
=95 8P Karyn Oliver (folk rock/americana/blues)
Karyn Oliver, an up-and-coming singer-songwriter from Baltimore, has
been turning heads on both sides of the Atlantic with her skillful
songwriting and a passionate, soulful voice that could break your
heart through a brick wall.

Oliver=92s musical inspiration comes primarily from the eclectic mix of
music she was exposed to while growing up in the musically diverse
culture of Washington, D.C. As a child, she learned to play rock =91n
roll on her guitar and, being inspired by the likes of the Beatles,
Everly Brothers, and Carol King to write some of her first songs. At
the same time she was also being trained in both classical voice and
musical theatre.

2007 marks the release of Oliver=92s debut CD, =93Hurricane=94, and critics
have already begun to take notice. While showcasing a wide range of
music styles is usually reserved for established artists, the
diversity of Oliver=92s music has been getting international rave
reviews, simply because she pulls it off so easily.

...from the sensual saxophone intro to the first track, =93America=94,
it=92s clear that this record is something special.
~Kevin Moog, Maverick Magazine, 4-=BD out of 5 stars

=85her array of musical styles ranges from throbbing rock with a
feminine tease to pure, silky love songs that will shatter your heart.
~Lindsay Stroh, The Baltimore Examiner

=85finely crafted songs highlight Karyn=92s vocal styles and tap deeply
into Baltimore=92s imprint on her life. ~John Devecka, WLOY Radio

Oliver=92s music has been featured on radio stations in both the U.S.
and Europe, including WLOY, WRYR, Radio Crystal Blue, Moray Firth
Radio, The Upper Room with Joe Kelley, and Radio Parkstad. Oliver has
also performed live on Maryland Public Television=92s =93MPT Artworks=94,
and Radio Midvliet in Den Haag. Executives from Sennheiser were so
impressed with the quality of her voice that they have requested
permission to use tracks from =93Hurricane=94 to demonstrate the quality
of Neumann recording microphones.

Oliver recently ended a two-year term as President of The Baltimore
Songwriters=92 Association in order to commit more time to supporting
the new album. In the spring of 2007, she completed a successful 4-
week tour of Europe. Oliver will play up and down the east coast this
fall, and is currently planning another European tour for early 2008.
Oliver also hosts a weekly radio show in Baltimore, highlighting and
providing exposure for other regional songwriters.

With a stellar review in Maverick Magazine (4 =BD out of 5 stars!), and
glowing feedback from such publications as CoffeehouseTour.com,
Baltimore Magazine, and Music Monthly Magazine, Karyn Oliver is
causing quite a stir right now.

Rob Lytle (folk/singer/songwriter)

Nationally touring recording artist Rob Lytle has one of the most
distinctive and engaging voices on the folk/acoustic scene, and a
charismatic ability to deliver songs with an unaffected honesty and
passion. He is best known as one of the mainstays of the Boston singer
songwriter resurgence of the 90's, and for his songs =93Cry For The
Working Man=94 and =93That=92s My Head That=92s Talking=94 both of which ha=
ve
received worldwide airplay and praise.

Rob currently splits his time between Raleigh, NC, Philadelphia, PA,
and Boston, MA. A new recording is due to be released in early 2011.

Wednesday, September 1
=95 8P Continuum Blues Jam- Come out to the Blues Jam every other
Wednesday sponsored by Continuum Consulting Services. Butch Haas will
be facilitating this free-to-the-public jam. So bring your gear, sign
up for a time, and jam with some of Durham=92s finest! Drums, keyboard,
bass, guitar and harp amps provided.

Thursday, September 2
=95 8P Brother Bandit
Drawing from a wide range of influences, Brother Bandit blends
heartfelt melodies with hard driving energy and sincere lyrics. The
brothers, Matt and Daniel Rotroff, were raised in the rural town of
Lewisville, North Carolina. From an early age their father introduced
them to music ranging from Doc Watson to Led Zeppelin. Back porch jam
sessions were a common occurrence for the brothers, and helped shape a
unique, grassroots style of music.

=9510P West Trinity (blues/rock)
West Trinity plays the kind of raw bluesy rock that spans from the
Piedmont to Picadilly Square. Free from synthesizers, samplers and
drum machines, the music of West Trinity is centered around barbaric
tribal drumbeats and biting guitar, with soaring vocals and thoughtful
composition. This show marks the release of West Trinity=92s first CD,
=93Illuminatus=94, on Ferocidi Records.

Grayson Currin, from the The Independent writes, =93West Trinity (is) a
new Durham four-piece that quotes classical music within its vaguely
spectral blues-rock anthems. A little like light Deep Purple Cream,
West Trinity builds electric washes beneath Therese Honeycutt's
incensed voice.=94

Friday, September 3
=95 8P hearyonder (rock/folk pop/country)
hearyonder is the collaborative work of Gilbert Young and Faith Janel,
two musically diverse artists based out of Durham North Carolina.
While currently working on their debut record, they may be seen honing
their craft in various venues around their local scene.

=9510P Saint Solitude (garage/indie/pop)
Saint Solitude is the project of Asheville, NC musician and Maine
native Dup Crosson.
Depending on the day, or the song, Crosson alternates between the
roles of singer, loop artist, multi-instrumentalist, and perhaps most
importantly, songwriter. He combines his favorite elements of Britpop,
shoegaze, post-punk, and psychedelia into concise, accessible, and
immediately appealing pop songs.
Crosson has played under the Saint Solitude moniker since 2006,
when he studied in Sweden and wrote the majority of the songs on his
debut EP, Disaster Stories. For the past 2 years, the songs have taken
on an entirely different life onstage with Crosson relying on his loop
station and constant instrument-swapping to fill the space that his
arrangements provide on record.
Now, with a full U.S. tour behind him and new backing band in tow,
Crosson is preparing to embark on a new chapter in his career to
coincide with the release of his debut full-length, Journal of Retreat
(out Feb 2nd, 2010 via Alive and Well Records). He will be touring
throughout 2010.
"A journey into a kinetically creative psyche...warm beats, hooky
melodies and Crosson=92s dusky tenor create an atmosphere of dreamy
anticipation." - Mountain Xpress

=95 11P Goodbye, Titan (rock/instrumental/ambient)
"Goodbye, Titan's cliff-climbing, long-form pieces should sit
familiarly with fans of Mogwai and Explosions in the Sky as they rise
to peaks only to collapse over them in blazes of glory. A slim quarter
configuration and a bent for psychedelic swirls add requisite flair."
- The Independent

Saturday, September 4
=95 8P Bob Funck (folk rock/pop)
Rhythmic acoustic folk-pop with a melodic quality that is
unpredictable yet fully accessible=85 and full of irresistible hooks.
The songs are at once hopeful and melancholy weaving personal and
social themes into intricate lyrical tapestries=85 stories of the 4
L's...Love, Life, Loss and
Loneliness.

=9510P HWYL (alt/celtic/rock)
Hwyl (pronounced Ho-eel) is a Welsh word that means many things,
including 'wind in your sails', sudden spark of enthusiasm, fun, and
much more. This certainly describes this gypsy/celtic rock band, based
out of North Carolina but with strong roots in Wales. The music is
melodic with dramatic rhythm patterns, strong in originality and
spunk, symbolic of flying red dragons and wild mystic oceans of lost
mermaids and ancient valleys of green. There are love songs, anti-war
songs, waltzes and jigs.

Since the birth of Hwyl in May 2006 they have staged the Koko Booth
Ampi Theater in Cary, NC for the Gaelic Festival 2006, The
International Festival of Raleigh, 2006 and many street festivals in
the area. They perform regularly at local venues and are played on
WXDU, WCOM, IRFT, Norwood Radio and more... The Herald Sun's quote on
Hwyl was "Hwyl brings new culture to North Carolina" after Carrboro
Music Fest 2006.

Rhiannon Jones from Ystradgynlais, South Wales, U.K. Her song
"Ystradgynlais" went on a sound track for a BBC documentary about
mining towns in 2003. A Dragonship member on fiddle and vocals.
Produced the album "Air Y Mor" with Steven Forrest (Siant Y Ddraig -
www.myspace.com/siantyddraig.

Cindy Jones from Chapel Hill, NC is a gifted percussionist and back up
vocalist.

Shannon Blackwood, from Chapel Hill, NC, has kept the ship afloat from
its early launch, playing lead guitar and now bass guitar with finesse
and rhythmic skill.

Scotty Young from Bynym, N.C played drums for Dragonship before
joining Hwyl. Dragonship played a few venues at the Cat's Cradle with
Mitch Easter and the Arts Center in Carrboro. Rock, jazz influences.

John Avis with roots in Philadelphia PA and Southern NJ. Rock and Jazz
are major influences. Performed with the Box Tops (The Letter),
Dovells (You Can't Sit Down, Dancing in the Streets) and Rolling
Stones cover group Hot Rocks. Entertained the gov. of PA. Many

Gangsters of Love and several other bands.

Sunday, September 5- Sunday Night Jazz Series
Aaron Mills Project
Starting at 7:30, Open Jam at 9
If you are in any way a fan of jazz, this is not to be missed !!!
Aaron Mills, best known as the audacious bassist of classic funk act
Cameo, has inspired a generation of groovy musicians, but his long
time love affair with jazz has inspired The Aaron Mills Project.
Aaron has been playing at the Cafe for almost two years now, along
with Wayne Kee, Bobby Hinton, Warren Fraizer and others. Aaron helped
bring Sunday night jazz back to the Cafe in a format that includes a
cast of regulars as well as featured guest musicians. Towards the end
of the evening, the night becomes an open jam, so, if anyone wants to
come blow their horn....
