(DC) / Mutant
League <http://www.myspace.com/mutantleague> (Greensboro) / The Toddlers /
Hidden Cat <http://www.myspace.com/hiddencat>*
*(Raleigh) - 9:30 PM $5

DC industrial post-punk dream-pop trio True Womanhood headline this diverse
night of rock and dance. Gate City synth post-punks Mutant League channel
The Swell Maps with a lo-fi approach reminiscent of Haunted House or those
early Art Lord tapes, good stuff. Locals, The Toddlers play a blues-tinged
indie rock with crooning swagger. DJ Hidden Cat will keep the dance floor
popping with his electro house jams.

*Fri 08/06* Dirty Little
Heaters<http://www.myspace.com/thedirtylittleheaters>/ Jews
and Catholics <http://www.myspace.com/jewsandcatholics> / Love
Craft<http://www.myspace.com/lovecraftnc>- 10 PM $5

Anybody who's seen Reese McHenry on stage can attest to the experience of
being back in the Big War, hearing a sarge howling over the Howitzers,
telling you shit to do with the utmost clarity and you don't know if it's
him or the enemy you're more scared of. Such is the reality of the Dirty
Little Heaters, playing the raunchiest ear-bleeding capital-R ROCK and far
be it from me if it ain't Reese you find yourself "yes, ma'am"-ing over and
over again until their set's finished. Winston-Salem's Jews and Catholics
make a similarly loud racket for a three-piece, and they've got that 80's
postpunk guitar sound and pop songwriting sensibility going for them. Fellow
Winstonite synth-pop romantics (and slight nutjobs) Love Craft open.

*Sat 08/07 *"Take 1 at Bedtime/Wasted" Dance Performance
<http://www.facebook.com/?sk=events#%21/video/video.php?v=413686988940&ref=notif&notif_t=video_tag>-
9 PM : $5

On Saturday, August 7th at 9pm, Renay Aumiller will present the danced work
TAKE 1 AT BEDTIME/WASTED. This evening length dance is the result of an 8
week long residency at the Nightlight featuring five professional dancers
from across the Triangle. Focusing on the raw and eclectic space of
Nightlight, Aumiller's choreographed site-specific work is based around the
themes of night life and small intimate spaces.

The first part of the evening, TAKE 1 AT BEDTIME, is a collaboration with
musician extraordinaire Dave Yarwood (Devour, Antibubbles, Holy Bouquet).
Both the movement and Yarwood's original sound composition explore impulsive
initiations of and by different layers of the body. Each dancer will inhabit
various corners of dimly lit intimate spaces, inviting the audience to
venture through various modes of visceral intent along with the dancers.

WASTED, part two of the event, offers a humorous exaggeration of night
living. Paired with pop music excerpts, Aumiller experiments with a
vocabulary of distorted vogueing, absurd repetition, out of control romping
and rolling, and juxtaposed solitude. Behind every joke lies truth – watch
out for the punch line.

*Mon 08/09* Blag'ard <http://www.myspace.com/blagard> / Poison
Arrows<http://www.myspace.com/thepoisonarrows>(Chiacago) - 9:30 PM $3
Note: Chest Pains cannot play this show anymore...

Poison Arrows is the groove-heavy post/minimalist-rock project from o.g. Don
Caballero bassist Patrick Morris. Local 70's/90's psych-rock guitar/drum
gods Blag'ard headline.

*Tues 08/10* Savage Knights <http://www.myspace.com/savageknights> / Vampire
Squid <http://www.myspace.com/vampiresquid> / Phantascist (CH) / Prehistoric
Horse - 9:30 PM $5

Ever-newer waters flow onto those who step into the same rivers. Crowmeat
Bob-helmed jazz-travelers Savage Knights embody that ol' chestnut about the
mutability of things, gracing these hollowed halls with death-jazz,
life-jazz, Ethio-jazz, jazz drone, 90.7 "straight-ahead" jazz, and fusions
of said styles. Who knows what we'll get tonight? Louisville's Vampire Squid
play a jazz-rock equally influenced by those 90's polyrhythmic dark rock
bands and decades of out-jazz history. Phantascist is Carrboro's Boogie and
Sara doing a drums and sax/vocal duo that sounds like Linda Sharrock jamming
with Buddy Miles. NYC free-improv trio Prehistoric Horse will appeal to fans
of the Ambiances Magnetiques crew as they collectively undo expectations of
guitar, drums, and cello.

*Wed 08/11* Spermcount / Leeches of
Lore<http://www.myspace.com/leechesoflore>/ Bitter
Resolve <http://www.myspace.com/bitterresolve> (members of Dirty Little
Heaters)- 9:30 PM $5

Refrain from illicit drug use, quit smoking, cut down your alcohol intake,
avoid processed foods, eat a diet higher in protein, avoid hot tubs and
close-fitting underwear, exercise regularly, but particularly avoid
exercises that may impact or strain the testicles. Why? Spermcount is back
in town and ready to hard core fuck your shit up. Albuquerque genre-jumping
thrash/C&W/metalcore/wtf duo Leeches of Lore and Rob Walsh's stoner-rock
trio Bitter Resolve open.

*Thurs 08/12* Noveller <http://www.myspace.com/noveller> (members of Cold
Cave <http://www.myspace.com/coldcave>/ Parts and Labor) /
Horseback<http://www.myspace.com/horsebacknoise>/
UnFact <http://www.myspace.com/unfact> (members of Jesus Lizard)::: 9:30 PM
$6

Here's a righteous evening of experimental guitar and bass as these two vets
of Rhys Chatham's guitar army come down for solo shows. Noveller is Sarah
Lipstate, who's played with Cold Cave, Parts and Labor, and Carla Bozulich,
among others, and had a notable disc of textured guitar drones out on No Fun
last fall. UnFact is David Wm. Sims, o.g. bassist for Scratch Acid and the
Jesus Lizard, now doing some very Chatham/Kane minimalist pieces among other
noisier work for the bass guitar. Good and good for you. Chapel Hill's own
Horseback will be playing a semi-rare show as the four-piece incarnation
(Jenks/John Crouch/Nick Peterson/Nora Rogers) sandwiched between Sarah and
David. HEAVY. Rounding out the bill is Elaine Carey's guitar improv project,
Tonos. Certainly starting on time for this show.

*Fri 08/13* CD Release Party for Alcazar
Hotel<http://www.myspace.com/thealcazarhotel>(Grip Tapes release) /

Justin Robinson (Carolina Chocolate Drops) and Mary Annettes / Birds and
Arrows - 10 PM

To celebrate their new disc, the Will Dawson (Squirrel Nut Zippers)- fronted
Alcazar Hotel bring their quirky brand of literate indie rock to the
Nightlight. Justin Robinson's work with the string-band revivalists Carolina
Chocolate Drops is legendary; with the Mary Annettes, he continues to work
within the early-American music framework but also incorporates sounds of
New Orleans jazz, cabaret, and traditional European styles. Local duo Birds
and Arrows bring two of the best singing voices in town back to the
Nightlight for their indie-Americana pop stylings.
