Friday, July 30
Schooner (http://www.schoonermusic.com)
The Old Ceremony (http://www.theoldceremony.com/)
Pour House, Raleigh

The Old Ceremony have a new album coming out this September, so I'd think you could expect to hear some of it in their set by now.

Friday, July 30
Sinful Savage Tigers (http://www.myspace.com/sinfulsavagetigers)
The Tell (http://www.myspace.com/thetellmusic)
Local 506, Chapel Hill

Friday, July 30
Pistil (http://myspace.com/pistilband)
Humble Tripe (http://www.myspace.com/shawnluby)
The Big Picture
Nightlight, Chapel Hill

Friday, July 30
J. Roddy Walston and The Business
The Trillions
Slim's Downtown, Raleigh

Saturday, July 31
The Drowning Lovers (http://www.reverbnation.com/thedrowninglovers)
Broad Street Cafe, Durham

Saturday, July 31
Corrosion of Conformity (http://www.corrosivecabaal.com/)
US Christmas (http://www.uschristmas.net)
Black Tusk (http://www.myspace.com/blacktusk)
Righteous Fool
Pour House, Raleigh

Quite a combination: one of my favorite heavy bands of my teenage years, Corrosion of Conformity, reunited in their now-considered-most-"classic" trio lineup. And one of my favorite heavy bands of right-fucking-now, U.S. Christmas, who write these amazing endless swirling psych epics that are equal parts multiple guitars, theremin/synth/violin noises, and the choked-off, paranoid-as-fuck yowls of frontman Nate Hall.

Saturday, July 31
Calico Haunts (http://www.myspace.com/calicohaunts)
The Deadstring Brothers (http://www.myspace.com/deadstringbrothers)
Whitey Morgan (http://whiteymorgan.com/)
Rachel Koontz & The Morning After
Berkeley Cafe, Raleigh

Calico Haunts put out one of my top-3 albums of 2009, "After All," which, at its best, came off as some kind of unholy collaboration between Leonard Cohen & Crazy Horse.

Saturday, July 31
The Mountain Goats (http://www.themountaingoats.net/)
Mount Moriah (http://www.myspace.com/mountmoriah)
Midtown Dickens (http://www.myspace.com/midtowndickens)
The Pinhook, Durham

This show is SOLD OUT, as it is a benefit for the damnfine local record label Holidays for Quince, and they sold advance tickets on their website. And the [solo, "classic edition"] Mountain Goats are playing. And it's a one-sided 12" EP release party for Mount Moriah, whose debut full-length will be one of your favorite albums of whatever year it winds up getting released in.

It appears that the Friends With Benefits folks have a limited number of passes that they're giving away on Twitter, so follow them <http://twitter.com/fwithb>.

Saturday, July 31
Aminal (http://www.myspace.com/theaminalmusic)
Pros & Cons
Wages (http://www.myspace.co/wageswages)
The Cave, Chapel Hill

Saturday, July 31
The Bronzed Chorus (http://www.myspace.com/thebronzedchorus)
Goodbye, Titan (http://www.myspace.com/loudestsilenceever)
Prawn
Slim's Downtown, Raleigh

Sunday, August 1
Antibubbles
Cassis Orange
Good Kids Sprouting Horns
The Pinhook, Durham

This is an early (6:00 pm!) show. Cassis Orange are a catchy new mid-fi bedroom synth-pop outfit whose debut EP got a lot of love from WXDU DJs a few months back.

Monday, August 2
Boris (http://homepage1.nifty.com/boris)
Russian Circles (http://www.myspace.com/russiancircles)
SAADE (http://www.myspace.com/sadesongs)
Cat's Cradle, Carrboro

Tuesday, August 3
Black Cobra (http://www.myspace.com/blackcobra)
Howl (http://www.myspace.com/howlheavymetal)
HOG
Struck By Lightning (http://www.myspace.com/struckbyfuckinglightning)
Volume 11 Tavern, Raleigh

HOG are a Durham trio who sprung from the ashes of the awesome metal band Tooth.
