This week at Nightlight-

..We are proud to showcase a wide variety of electronic music acts, a rare
hip-hop show with Canibus, masterful noise artists and a rompin' rock n'
roll night on Friday! We are closed Saturday for a private event but are
open on Sunday from 4-7 pm for a free "Handmade Guitar " Open House..

Also, since we are not selling advance tickets for Canibus, doors will be
open at 8pm, if you want to come earlier to get your ticket.. Plus, for one
night only (Wed. 07/28) we will allow Nightlight members to bring in two
guests instead of the normal one guest allowed. We hope to encourage as many
folks to come out and party!

Again, thanks for supporting the Nightlight!* *

FrequeNC does it again, bringing the Strange Life Records United States Tour
to the Nightlight! Veteran Dutch electronic artist and Strange Life head
LEGOWELT is down for a live set of his
techno/house/badass-analog-synth-movie-music; fellow technohead DJs The Lone
Ranger and Not Happy Jan will spin sets as well.
VVAQRT<http://lmgrovllum.org/vindex.html>has been described as
"saturnine pop automaton".

*Wed 07/28* CANIBUS <http://www.myspace.com/canibus> (Hip-Hop Poet Laureate
& Battle Rapper) / THE BEAST <http://www.myspace.com/thebeastreality> (NC) /
BORN SUN / DJ Puerto Con / Social Memory Complex ::

$12 :: Doors open at 8 PM, show at 9 PM :: NL Membership required for
entry...

Uncompromisingly literate hip-hop veteran Canibus comes to the Nightlight
for a rare Triangle stop on his Melatonin Magik tour, relentless in his
vicious lyrical assaults, the just man raging in the wilds. Live-band party
jazz-hop trio The Beast (Durham) rock it out while fellow ultracerebral
Social Memory Complex (Carrboro) open. DJ Puerto Con spins throughout the
night

*Thurs 07/29 Remora <http://www.myspace.com/remora> / Weather
Machine<http://www.myspace.com/919weathermachine>/
Slicnaton <http://www.slicnaton.com/> / Arte
Povera<http://www.myspace.com/artepoveramusic>( NC/VA)- 9:30 PM :: $5
*

Though he takes his nom de music from the genus name for suckerfish, Capitol
City's Brian John Mitchell leeches from no one, charting his own territory
as the guitar-wielding experimental drone juggernaut Remora. Chapel Hill's
Weather Machine is only half a misnomer-- when their ambient soundscapes
suggest atmospheric happenings, it's often slow and deliberate
(millennialist not minimalist) and much more evocative of climate than mere
weather; when they go for the machine side of things, it's in the truest
sense of the word: gears grinding, parts moving, pistons pumping, springs
springing, industrialism revolting. Raleigh sound artist Slicnation gets all
Toshimaru Nakamura on us half the time, remixing the mixer, the other half,
he's bowing strings into infinity, reaching tonal transcendence. Roanoke's
Arte Povera is a damaged-drone-folk wunderkind, plying his Thuja-meets-Amps
for Christ folk on the good folks of Boone.

*Fri 07/30 Big Picture (members of the Never, The Annuals and Lost in the
Trees) / Humble Tripe <http://www.myspace.com/humbletripe> / Pistil ::
<http://www.myspace.com/pistilband>9:30 PM :: $5 *

Playing a rare show amidst their multiple other projects, the Johnny and
Joah Tunnell-led Big Picture bring their soaring contemporary chamber psych
to the Nightlight, making beautiful, woozy polyrhythmic jams for the people.
Emotive folk-punks Humble Tripe and drrty-rockin' Pistil open.

*Sat 07/31*- Closed for Private Event

Anybody who's seen Reese McHenry on stage can attest to the experience of
being back in the Big War, hearing a sarge howling over the Howitzers,
telling you shit to do with the utmost clarity and you don't know if it's
him or the enemy you're more scared of. Such is the reality of the Dirty
Little Heaters, playing the raunchiest ear-bleeding capital-R ROCK and far
be it from me if it ain't Reese you find yourself "yes, ma'am"-ing over and
over again until their set's finished. Winston-Salem's Jews and Catholics
make a similarly loud racket for a three-piece, and they've got that 80's
postpunk guitar sound and pop songwriting sensibility going for them. Fellow
Winstonite synth-pop romantics (and slight nutjobs) Love Craft open.

*Sat 08/07 **"Take 1 at Bedtime/Wasted" Dance Performance
<http://www.facebook.com/?sk=events#%21/video/video.php?v=413686988940&ref=notif&notif_t=video_tag>-
9 PM : $5 *

* On Saturday, August 7th at 9pm, Renay Aumiller will present the danced
work TAKE 1 AT BEDTIME/WASTED. This evening length dance is the result of an
8 week long residency at the Nightlight featuring five professional dancers
from across the Triangle. Focusing on the raw and eclectic space of
Nightlight, Aumiller's choreographed site-specific work is based around the
themes of night life and small intimate spaces. *

*The first part of the evening, TAKE 1 AT BEDTIME, is a collaboration with
musician extraordinaire Dave Yarwood (Devour, Antibubbles, Holy Bouquet).
Both the movement and Yarwood's original sound composition explore impulsive
initiations of and by different layers of the body. Each dancer will inhabit
various corners of dimly lit intimate spaces, inviting the audience to
venture through various modes of visceral intent along with the dancers. *

*WASTED, part two of the event, offers an humorous exaggeration of night
living. Paired with pop music excerpts, Aumiller experiments with a
vocabulary of distorted vogueing, absurd repetition, out of control romping
and rolling, and juxtaposed solitude. Behind every joke lies truth – watch
out for the punch line.*
