Open Mic is arranged to enable anyone to perform, so all you have to
do is turn up early and get your name down to perform. Originals and
cover music of every style and genre are welcome! Open mic is a great
way to practice your art and can also can be a proving ground for new
talent and material. The audience consists of singers, poets,
songwriters and music lovers so the atmosphere should be warm and
encouraging for everybody.

Thursday, July 15
=95 8P Austin Miller (acoustic/folk)

=9510P Equinox (jazz/blues)
Equinox is based in Chapel Hill, NC, and has performed together for
over ten years. Equinox is a six-piece band (vocals, guitar, keyboard,
bass, drums, and saxophone) that produces an exciting blend of jazz
and blues. Equinox has been a featured performer at Weaver Street
Market (Carrboro=92s outdoor live music venue), Hillsborough Jazz
Festival, Fayetteville Blues and Brews Festival, Tupelo=92s Steak House,
as well as being a staple performer at many UNC functions. The band=92s
previous CD release, entitled =93A Table Near the Cheesecake,=94 has
received national radio airplay, and has been used as a soundtrack on
The Weather Channel on national cable TV.
Equinox performs original compositions as well as unique
arrangements of jazz and blues standards. The band is equally at home
on the concert stage or in a quiet supper club atmosphere.

Friday, July 16
=95 8P Chris Bryant - The 2010 Discovery Series
Middle school teacher by day, singer/songwriter by night, singer/
songwriter by night, Chris Bryant approaches varied genres and subject
matter with soulful honesty. It doesn't matter if he's singing about
love, love lost, social responsibility or having fun at a party - when
Chris sings, people listen. And when they listen, they believe him.

In 2010, Chris is playing a special series of shows at the Broad
Street Cafe. Each month, he'll play a 45-50 minute set of music from
an artist, band, or genre that's been influential or inspirational to
his musical development. He'll follow that up with a 45-50 minute set
of his own material. January's featured artist is Ben Harper. To
find out more, visit http://discover.chrisbryantmusic.com.

=95 10P Lizzy Ross (folk rock)
Lizzy Ross has been singing since she could breathe. She was born and
raised in Annapolis, MD, where she learned to play guitar and began
writing songs, but her performing talent really began to shine while
she studied music and philosophy at UNC-Chapel Hill. While in school,
she and two other UNC students hooked up as =93Lafcadio=94 to enter a band
competition hosted by Vinyl Records. They won the competition within a
week of forming, began performing regularly at local venues, and
released a critically acclaimed EP in January 2009.
After her success with Lafcadio, Lizzy decided to extend into solo
performance. Her fans praise her songwriting as insightful beyond her
twenty-two years, and are always struck by the intensity and passion
of her live performance. She is known for blending the flavors of
singers like Janis Joplin and Joni Mitchell to create a smooth,
strong, and soulful sound. Lizzy has been featured on WRAL-TV, as well
as WKNC and WXYC radio. In May 2010, Lizzy will release her first full-
length solo album, an intimate, acoustic collection of original songs.
She performs regularly in North Carolina=92s triangle area, both solo
and with her band.

=95 11P Humble Tripe (indie/folk rock/americana)
Grabbing anything they can on the way out the door, Humble Tripe
brings the back porch, the front porch, and anything you can find in
your attic on stage emerging as a magical, musical tribute to life,
love and Southern celebration.

Humble Tripe came to form as the music project of Shawn Luby. Luby, a
runaway from the competitive classical guitar word, took to the
streets picking up any strung stick he could find on his voyage to
make new noise. The journey got some juice when Luby joined up with
drummer Melissa York, self taught pop-punk drummer extraordinaire
(Team Dresch, Butchies, ex-Members), and string player supreme, Stud
Green. The result was a classical/folk/american/punk/pop trifecta
meant to entice and lure in the next round of Humble
Tripers.Eventually, the threesome coerced ex-Texas first chair
trupeteer Kadji Amin to master the harmonica and pick up more horns,
all the while convincing modern dancer turned bell-whacking-symbol-
crashing thumb harpist Jess Shell to give up a life of country livin=92
and take to the road.

Saturday, July 17
=95 8P North Columbia (alt/acoustic/folk rock)
North Columbia is a band out of the Triangle area (Raleigh-Durham-
Chapel Hill) formed to bring together a group of friends who shared an
affection for playing original music and "taking it to the
people" (referring here to our love of playing live..not a veiled
reference to any kind of political movement). We play all-original
music which is difficult to characterize - maybe "alt-country-ska-
folk" if we're forced to put a name to it. Our members hail from
diverse backgrounds, all of which now include serious day-jobs and
parenthood - that may explain the energy with which we engage our
music...it helps keep us young at heart. We really enjoy live shows,
so come on out and see us if you're looking to hear some original
music from the southern part of heaven.

=9510P Chris Crowder and the Dream Poets (adult alternative/new rock &
blues)
Chris Crowder and the Dream Poets consists of band founder, balladeer-
guitarist and singer/songwriter Chris Crowder, who is a North
Carolina native, drummer John Wrenn driving the beat, bassist Lynn
Dail laying a solid foundation, and rounding out the line up is Warren
Johnson on guitar and various stringed instruments. This group of
talented musicians delivers a refreshing mix of Chris's original songs
and mix of covers. This band's playing style ranges from an
intoxicating ethereal acoustic sound to a soulful and high energy
metal blues rock. From song to song this band delivers the goods,
masterfully mixing music styles to the point of leaving an audience on
the edge of their seats - reminiscent of your last favorite concert
experience where the marvelous sounds from the previous song were
still spinning wonderfully in your head as you anticipated the next.
Truly exquisite. Chris and the Poets are currently busy at work on a
third album while they continue to promote music the previous two
releases, "Acetone" and their latest release "Dream Poet." While most
bands today are busy trying to work their way from a stage to a
studio, Chris and the Poets are already accomplished studio artists
bringing their studio magic and musical mastery to a stage near you.
>From a recent performance "BIG THANKS to Chris Crowder and the Dream
Poets for an AWESOME show last night on the patio! If you haven't
seen them perform, check them out!
We're looking forward to seeing them again!" - Dick and Jane's Martini
and Tapas Bar, Mebane, NC.

Sunday, July 18
=95 7:30P The JazzTones (jazz/blues/swing)
The JazzTones sextet plays mainstream jazz in the styles of the 50's
and 60's. Behind the sultry vocals of Alice Brower, the Jazztones
cover tunes ranging from standards, to swing, blues, latin and bebop.
It's members come from the greater Hillsborough, North Carolina area.
