Friday, July 2
A Rooster for the Masses
(http://www.myspace.com/aroosterforthemasses)
The Trousers
Left Outlet (http://www.myspace.com/leftoutlet)
Bright Young Things
Skullbuckle
Pour House, Raleigh

It's a three-night local-music festival/birthday bash known as
Weese-Fest; this is Night One.

Friday, July 2
Clang Quartet (http://www.myspace.com/clangquartet)
Lightning Bolt (http://www.fortthunder.org/music/lb/)
In the Year of the Pig (http://www.southernloveprod.com/ityotp.htm)
Local 506, Chapel Hill

Providence, RI's Lightning Bolt may not have invented the art of making
hellaciously loud noise in sweaty basements across America, but over the
past decade they've certainly refined it to its essence. I suspect it'll
require the focused efforts of all five members of In the Year of the
Pig to come anywhere near the sheer visceral volume of Lightning Bolt's
two.

Friday, July 2
Hammer No More the Fingers (http://www.hnmtf.com)
Bambara
Free Electric State (http://www.myspace.com/freeelectricstate)
Gift Horse
Tir Na Nog, Raleigh

Tir Na nOg are celebrating Independence Day with three consecutive
nights of great local Independent rock.

Friday, July 2
Pinche Gringo (http://www.myspace.com/pinchegringoband)
The Humms (http://www.myspace.com/thehumms)
The Cave, Chapel Hill

Friday, July 2
David Dondero (http://www.futurefarmer.com/davidd.html)
Ye Olde Shoppe
Skylar (http://www.myspace.com/skylargudasz)
Nightlight, Chapel Hill

Friday, July 2
The Ghost of Saturday Nite
(http://www.myspace.com/theghostofsaturdaynite)
Rocket Cottage
The Oak City Six (http://www.myspace.com/oakcitysix)
Slim's Downtown, Raleigh

Saturday, July 3
Red Collar (http://www.myspace.com/redcollarmusic)
Left Outlet (http://www.myspace.com/leftoutlet)
The Ts (http://www.myspace.com/thettttt)
Richard Bacchus & the Luckiest Girls
(http://www.myspace.com/richardbacchus)
Magic Mike
Pour House, Raleigh

Night two of Weese-Fest, aka a big long weekend birthday bash for Pour
House doorman Benton Weese. The fairly large guns already came out last
night, but tonight's are even bigger.

Saturday, July 3
Filthybird (http://www.myspace.com/filthybird)
Shipwrecker (http://www.myspace.com/shipwreckermuzak)
Homoticons (http://www.myspace.com/homoticons)
The Pinhook, Durham

Filthybird make swirling, surging, piano-fueled artrock that's equally
influenced by Joni Mitchell's mid-70s experimentalism, and the heavy
grape-koolaid smell of kudzu in the evening.

Saturday, July 3
Mount Moriah (http://www.myspace.com/mountmoriah)
Lonnie Walker (http://www.myspace.com/lonniewalker)
Motor Skills
Tir Na Nog, Raleigh

Last time I saw Mount Moriah, outdoors at Duke Gardens, they were
top-of-their-game taught, intense, and essentially perfect. Cannot wait
for their upcoming record.

Saturday, July 3
The Alcazar Hotel (http://www.myspace.com/thealcazarhotel)
Radio Silent Auction
DIVEbar, Raleigh

Sunday, July 4
Wizardry (http://www.myspace.com/wizardrylives)
Make (http://www.myspace.com/thebandmake)
HOG
Bezoar (http://www.myspace.com/bezoarmusic)
Nightlight, Chapel Hill

This is billed as a "4th of July Throwdown! :: Heavy Metal BBQ! :: 3 pm
onward..."

HOG are from Durham, and used to be in a band called Tooth. They're now
leaner, meaner, and feature massive tone for lightyears.

Sunday, July 4
Spider Bags (http://www.myspace.com/spiderbags)
Pinche Gringo (http://www.myspace.com/pinchegringoband)
Last Year's Men (http://www.myspace.com/lastyearsmenband)
The Humms (http://www.myspace.com/thehumms)
Nobunny (http://myspace.com/nobunnylovesyou)
2702 Lawndale, Durham

House show / July 4th Party featuring some of the Triangle's best
garage-rock, plus Goner Records superstar[s] Nobunny, and Athens' The
Humms.

Sunday, July 4
The Loners (http://www.demonbeachrecords.com/loners.html)
Gray Young (http://www.myspace.com/grayyoung)
The Ghost of Saturday Nite
(http://www.myspace.com/theghostofsaturdaynite)
Left Outlet (http://www.myspace.com/leftoutlet)
Pour House, Raleigh

This is night three of Weese-Fest. Note that in addition to the above,
they're also listing a Super Secret Band.

Sunday, July 4
Evil Wiener (http://www.evilwienerworld.com/)
The Cave, Chapel Hill

It's the NINTH annual Evil Weiner Roast at the Cave, with your hosts,
Evil Wiener. And actual weiners, being roasted on a grill in the parking
lot out back. Come hungry!

Monday, July 5
LeMaster (http://www.myspace.com/nioverhead)
Local 506, Chapel Hill

Frequent Bright Eyes collaborator & Now It's Overhead mastermind Andy
LeMaster, in some new band configuration. Some folks are speculating as
to whether it'll resemble Now It's Overhead, but it seems to me that the
Azure Ray ladies were a huge part of that sound. I'm thinking maybe we
should look a couple of years further back, to Andy's highly quirky (and
exceptionally catchy) Athens indierock band Drip. But what do I know.

Tuesday, July 6
Sleigh Bells (http://www.myspace.com/sleighbellsmusic)
Nerve City (http://www.myspace.com/nervecity)
Po Po (http://www.myspace.com/popobros)
Cat's Cradle, Carrboro

Get yr laptop, download some of what they were calling "electroclash" a
few years ago, turn the thing up all the way, and then shove your ears
right up against the tiny half-inch plastic speaker so that it feels
like your brains are being shredded from within. That's pretty much the
Sleigh Bells shtick. Kinda catchy, though.
