Thursday, April 29
The Church (http://www.thechurchband.com/)
Lincoln Theater, Raleigh

This is billed as "30th Anniversary Acoustic Tour 2010."

Thursday, April 29
Junior Brown (http://www.juniorbrown.com/)
John Howie, Jr. & The Rosewood Bluff (http://www.myspace.com/rosewoodbluff)
Cat's Cradle, Carrboro

Thursday, April 29
Evil Wiener (http://www.evilwienerworld.com/)
Puritan Rodeo (http://www.thepuritanrodeoshow.blogspot.com/)
Graveyard Fields
Local 506, Chapel Hill

This is a CD-release show for Graveyard Fields, which is a band that teams up Brian Risk (a guy possibly best-known previously for his "It's Carrboro!" rap) with Pete & Andrea of Birds & Arrows, as well as some other folks. Andrea does the singing, so the end-result is closer to a much more lushly-arranged Birds & Arrows than to Brian's previous work.

This is also an extraordinarily-rare appearance by Evil Weiner, who've nearly gotten to the point of being "Billy Sugarfix's old band." But not quite yet.

Thursday, April 29
A Rooster for the Masses (http://www.myspace.com/aroosterforthemasses)
I Was Totally Destroying It (http://www.reverbnation.com/iwastotallydestroyingit)
Aminal (http://www.myspace.com/theaminalmusic)
Broad Street Cafe, Durham

It's sometime BSC booker/soundguy Rusty Sutton's birthday, so he put together this lineup of a few of his favorite bands to help him celebrate.

Thursday, April 29
Simple (http://www.myspace.com/httpwwwmyspacecomsimple)
Pros & Cons
The Cave, Chapel Hill

Thursday, April 29
The Moaners (http://www.themoaners.com/)
Raised By Wolves (http://www.myspace.com/raisedbywolves1)
Tir Na Nog, Raleigh

It's the weekly Local Bands, Local Beers, tonight with the swampy stripped-down bloooz-grind-drone of the Moaners.

Thursday, April 29
The Toddlers (http://www.myspace.com/thetoddlersmusic)
Skylar (http://www.myspace.com/skylargudasz)
Royal Forest (http://www.myspace.com/loxsly)
The Pinhook, Durham

Friday, April 30
An Horse (http://www.myspace.com/anhorse)
Kaki King (http://www.kakiking.com)
Cat's Cradle, Carrboro

Friday, April 30
Dead to Society (http://www.myspace.com/deadtosociety101)
Shoot First
Raw Dog
Mark Cool
Marvell Building, Durham

Friday, April 30
Hammer No More the Fingers (http://www.hnmtf.com)
The Demon Beat
Lille Bronze (http://www.myspace.com/lillebronze)
Local 506, Chapel Hill

Friday, April 30
Greg Ginn & the Texas Corrugators (http://www.myspace.com/txcorrugators)
Brand New Life (http://www.myspace.com/thebrandnewlife)
The Cave, Chapel Hill

Yes, that Greg Ginn. His band currently makes some kind of odd Texan instrumental/jam/western-swing guitar music. I bet he'll still hit you over the head with his guitar if you heckle him, though.

Friday, April 30
Schooner (http://www.schoonermusic.com)
Lake Inferior (http://www.myspace.com/lakeinferiormusic)
Twin Tigers
Gift Horse
Nightlight, Chapel Hill

Schooner have regrouped after the departure of keyboardist and Reid's-sister Katharine, and have recently released what many folks have called their strongest material yet, their cytunes.org exclusive Duck Kee Sessions EP.

Friday, April 30
Maple Stave (http://www.maplestave.com)
Veronique Diabolique (http://www.veroniquediabolique.com/)
Jason Kutchma
The Pinhook, Durham

The Maple Stave have lately gone even further down the weird rabbit hole that some bands encounter when they spend a little bit too much time hanging out together in the practice space . . . though in their case it's a bit more literal.

Frank, Harvey, whomever, whatever, they're still the tightest 3-piece post-whatever funny-time-signature rockband in town.

Friday, April 30
The Loners (http://www.demonbeachrecords.com/loners.html)
The Royal Nites
The Spring Collection
Slim's Downtown, Raleigh

This is the debut of the Spring Collection, which unites the Bleeding Hearts' Sam Madison with Greg Rice of the Cartridge Family in some kind of unholy rock-n-roll matrimony.

Saturday, May 1
Beach House (http://www.myspace.com/beachhousemusic)
Washed Out (http://www.myspace.com/thebabeinthewoods)
Cat's Cradle, Carrboro

This show is Sold Out, but you can go stand outside & get a pretty good snapshot of the current state of indie-music blog readership for free.

Saturday, May 1
New Town Drunks (http://www.newtowndrunks.com/)
Pneurotics (http://www.myspace.com/pneurotics)
The Cave, Chapel Hill

This has been billed as some kind of mega-rumble, a wrestling throwdown, a Thrilla in Chapel Hilla. I feel sadly confident when I predict, however, that no actual blood will be spilled.

Saturday, May 1
Inspector 22
Josephine Foster (http://www.100songsising.com)
Humble Tripe (http://www.myspace.com/shawnluby)
The Cherry Blossoms (http://www.myspace.com/thecherryblossomsnashville)
Nightlight, Chapel Hill

Saturday, May 1
Big Fat Gap (http://www.bigfatgap.com/)
Ryan Gustafson (http://www.myspace.com/ryangustafsonmusic)
Mandolin Orange (http://www.myspace.com/mandolinorange)
Local 506, Chapel Hill

This is a CD-release for Mandolin Orange.

Saturday, May 1
Fujiyama Roll (http://www.myspace.com/fujiyamaroll)
Where the Buffalo Roamed (http://www.myspace.com/wherethebuffaloroamed)
Fractal Farm (http://www.myspace.com/fractalfarm)
The Pinhook, Durham

Saturday, May 1
Bright Young Things
Austin Collins
Slim's Downtown, Raleigh

Sunday, May 2
John Harrison
Settle, Ross & Bell
Milltown, Carrboro

3/4ths of the amazing rockband Lud convene at Milltown to play, in their words, "Songs of the Great Recession and other musical numbers." Semi-acoustic, and presumably in that early-mid-evening timeframe that most Milltown shows are in.

Sunday, May 2
Chrome Plated Apostles (http://www.demonbeach.com)
Atomic Drops
Jason Kutchma
Slim's Downtown, Raleigh

Fairly rare appearance from down-and-dirty Bad Checks spinoff band The Chrome Plated Apostles.

Monday, May 3
Dirty Little Heaters (http://www.myspace.com/thedirtylittleheaters)
Atomic Drops
HOG
Reservoir, Carrboro

Hog is Rich, Ryland & Noah, all formerly of Tooth, doing something a little different than their former band, but still heavy as hell.

I don't have to explain the Dirty Little Heaters, right?

Tuesday, May 4
Future Islands (http://www.myspace.com/futureislands)
Lonnie Walker (http://www.myspace.com/lonniewalker)
Lower Dens
Berkeley Cafe, Raleigh

Future Islands moved to Baltimore, and now they've released their first full-length for Thrill Jockey. Yet it seems like they still find the time to come home & play a local show at least once every month or two, god bless 'em.

Tuesday, May 4
Suckers (http://www.myspace.com/suckerstheband)
Local Natives (http://www.thelocalnatives.com/home.html)
Local 506, Chapel Hill
