=9510P The Beast (hip hop/jazz/soul)
Infusing the best in jazz composition and improvisation with Hip-Hop
poetry and soulful grooves, The Beast creates music to embrace and
impassion people of all communities. Beautifully rebellious and
refreshingly conscious, The Beast delivers a high level of energy and
intimacy every time they take the stage.

Having met while earning their music degrees, The Beast=92s exceptional
rhythm section (pianist Eric Hirsh, bassist Pete Kimosh, drummer
Stephen Coffman) had played together for over six years by the time
they joined forces with emcee Pierce Freelon (son of Grammy nominated
jazz vocalist, Nnenna Freelon). The quartet quickly discovered a
powerful synergy and developed songs that have been praised as
"eclectic and intricate Hip-Hop shot through with soul and Afro-Cuban
influences=94 (The Independent Weekly).

=95 12Midnight Hammer No More The Fingers (concrete)
Doing more with less, Hammer No More The Fingers is a 3 piece from
Durham/Chapel Hill, NC. In 1994 they were a collective of 10 year olds
playing all original music except for an Archers of Loaf cover.
Pixies, Chili Peppers, TMBG, Nirvana probably formed the mold. So you
could shoehorn them into an early 90's indie revival type thing, but
it's a little like putting a squid in a sweater.

Hammer No More The Fingers' sound is luxuriously full for a 3 piece.
They write catchy, edgy, slightly off-kilter rock music and their live
show is powerful and reckless, yet somehow tasteful and refined.
Searing, mellow, crunchy, they do brain surgery and tree removal with
the same pocket knife, producing a small-club-arena-rock, happy-from-
the-inside, soul jam.
