Join us for the release party for the seventh issue of locally
produced anarchist magazine Rolling Thunder! Contributors and editors
involved in the magazine will be on hand to present on some of the
themes of the issue, talk about the process of compiling the magazine,
and discuss politics and current events from an anti-authoritarian and
anti-capitalist perspective. THERE WILL ALSO BE SNACKS AND SMALL TALK!
The new issue features an extensive report on and analysis of the
riots in Greece and the Republican National Convention protests, an
in-depth analysis of the economic crisis and bank bailouts, a scene
report on anarchy in Winona, Minnesota and tips on supporting
radicalorganizing in small towns, reviews and interviews with radical
musicians, and all the witty and incisive critique you've come to
expect from the best anarchist periodical being published in the US
today. Don't miss it!

2) ANIMAL RIGHTS FILM SERIES - "BEHIND THE MASK"!

This March, Internationalist Books has hosting a weekly film event
every Thursday at 7 PM devoted to screening thought-provoking films
about animal rights. After each film there will be a facilitated
discussion with animal advocates about reactions to the films and
thoughts for making the world a better place for all creatures. The
screenings are organized by the North Carolina Animal Defense League.
The final screening is taking place this Thursday, 3/26, at 7 PM:

"Behind the Mask": The Animal Liberation Front is an underground group
who are well known for freeing thousands of mink from fur farms,
breaking into laboratories to smuggle out tortured animals and videos
exposing heart wrenching conditions, or rescuing chickens and pigs
from their dreadful lives and deaths on factory farms. This
documentary includes lab and farm raid footage and interviews with
convicted animal liberationists who have spent time in prison for
their actions. For more information, see http://www.uncagedfilms.com/.

3) AUTHOR READING WITH ZINESTER AL BURIAN!

Join us at 7 PM on Saturday, March 28th for an evening of reading,
ranting, and raving with maniacal touring zinesters and Chapel Hill's
own indie celebrity, Al Burian! Here's the lineup:

--AL BURIAN (Burn Collector, Things Are Meaning Less, Milemarker;
occasionally can be found walking the streets of Carrboro glaring at
people)

--CASSIE J SNEIDER (comics artist/zinestress from Austin, TX)

--BUCKY SINISTER (no relation to Simon Bob Sinister; author of
'Whiskey and Robots' and other books, from San Francisco)

4) EARTH FIRST! ROADSHOW - MONDAY!

Join us on Monday, March 30th at 7 PM for an exciting presentation,
puppet show, slideshow, and discussion about environmental defense
movements in the US!

From the Earth First! Organizers? Conference & Winter Rendezvous in
the Sonoran desert this February to the Round River Rendezvous in
Cascadia this summer, a band of eco-rebels will be crossing the US
Empire to renew a fighting movement that can stop this industrial
nightmare from choking the life out of the earth. The need for
resistance in solidarity with the wild has never been louder or
clearer than it is today; the roadshow is a great tool for cultivating
resistance. This stop will involve discussions of the state of the
eco-defense movement; updates on campaigns across the country;
discussions of the Green Scare, prisoner support, and security
culture; and much more!

SAT, 4/4, 12:30 PM: AUTHOR READING: FRED GOLDSTEIN AND MONICA
MOOREHEAD ON THE ECONOMIC CRISIS

Fred Goldstein, author of Low-Wage Capitalism, will talk about his
groundbreaking new book "Low-Wage Capitalism," which presents a
Marxist view of the capitalist economic crisis. Critically acclaimed
by both Howard Zinn and Michael Parenti, "Low-Wage Capitalism"
provides a sorely-needed and easy-to-read analysis of the roots of the
current global economic crisis, its implications for workers and
oppressed peoples, and the strategy needed for future struggle.
Goldstein explains how the dramatic impact of new technology and the
restructuring of global capitalism contains the seeds of its own
destruction. Meet the author of Low-Wage Capitalism. Fred Goldstein
writes on international and domestic affairs from a Marxist perspective.

He will be joined by Monica Moorehead, the editor of Marxism,
Reparations and the Black Freedom Struggle, a rich collection of
articles from the pages of Workers World newspaper featuring Black
Resistance, Katrina, History of Struggle and Anthology. Both authors
will sign books following the discussion.

SAT, 4/11, 3 PM: POETRY READING WITH PAULA KEITH - "A TERSE TURN IN
CHAPEL HILL"

Paula Keith is a local Chapel Hill activist, a poet, a write-in
presidential Candidate, publisher and pilot. She will be reading from
her latest collection of poems, "A Terse Turn in Chapel Hill",
follow-up to her previous collection titled "Paula's Pedantic Poetry."
She describes herself: "My writing poetry and short storys began in
mid-life mostly after the birth of my daughter Alexandra. The poems
are current and topical and drawn from a rich variety of life
circumstances and jobs. Being the mom of a kidnapped child has been
the enduring painful challenge of my entire life. Besides the upcoming
poetry reading, I am working on a play called "The Blue Shark."

SAT, 4/18, 7 PM: FILM SCREENING- "WHO IS BOZO TEXINO?": THE SECRET
HISTORY OF HOBO GRAFFITI
"Who is Bozo Texino?" chronicles the search for the source of a
ubiquitous and mythic rail graffiti - a simple sketch of a character
with an infinity-shaped hat and the scrawled moniker, "Bozo Texino" -
a drawing seen on railcars for over 80 years. Daniel's gritty black
and white film uncovers a secret society and it?s underground universe
of hobo and railworker graffiti, and includes interviews with
legendary boxcar artists, Coaltrain, Herby, Colossus of Roads, and The
Rambler. Shooting over a 16-year period, Daniel rode freights across
the West carrying a Super-8 sound camera and a 16mm Bolex. During his
quest he discovered the roots of a folkloric tradition that has gone
mostly unnoticed for a century. Taking inspiration from Beat artists
Robert Frank and Jack Kerouac, the film functions as both a
sub-cultural documentary and a stylized fable on wanderlust and
outsider identity.

Texas-reared, San Francisco exile, and confirmed tramp, Bill Daniel
continues to experiment with survivalism and bricolage in his efforts
to record and report on the various social margins he often finds
himself in. His work began in 1980 with a 10,000-shot photo
documentation of the blossoming punk rock scene in Austin, Texas. His
subcultural documentary subjects have included bicycle messengers,
radical environmentalists, hobo graffiti artists, and swap meet guitar
players. Since completing the film Bill Daniel and "Who is Bozo
Texino?" have been touring on the road, wowing audiences of punks,
geezers, folkies, foamers and graffiti toughs all over the nasty ol'
USA and across Europe and South America.

WED, 4/22, 7 PM: "MUSLIMS OF METROPOLIS" - AUTHOR READING WITH KAVITHA
RAJAGOPALAN

Join us for an exciting evening with visiting scholar Kavitha
Rajagopalan as she reads from her new book "Muslims of Metropolis"!

In Muslims of Metropolis, Kavitha Rajagopalan takes a much needed step
in personalizing and humanizing our understanding of the Muslim
diaspora. Tracing the stories of three very different families - a
Palestinian family moving to London, a Kurdish family moving to
Berlin, and a Bangladeshi family moving to New York - she reveals a
level of complexity and nuance that is seldom considered. Through heir
voices and in their words, Rajagopalan describes what prompted these
families to leave home, what challenges they faced in adjusting to
their new lives, and how they came to view their place in society.
Interviews with community leaders, social justice organizations, and
with academics and political experts in each of the countries add
additional layers of insight to how broad political issues, like
nationalist conflict, immigration reform, and anti-terrorism
strategies affect the lives of Muslims who have migrated in search of
economic stability and personal happiness. Whether read as simple
stories or broadernnarratives, the voices in this revealing book are
among the many speaking against generalization, prejudice, and fear
that has so far surrounded Muslims living in the West.

Kavitha Rajagopalan has worked in international development and
finance, and as a journalist in India, Germany, and the United States.
She is currently a senior fellow at the World Policy Institute. Visit
Kavitha's website at http://kaviraj.typepad.com.
