1) DISCUSSION TONIGHT: OBAMA AND GUANTANAMO!

Please come out to Internationalist Books tonight (Thursday, 1/29) at
7PM and let your voice be heard at our inaugural Current Events Forum.
This will be a chance for friends and strangers to sit together and
talk about the issues of the day. While the event is in the
experimental stages, we hope that this will becometurn into a weekly
or biweekly get-together.

Each forum will begin with a discussion about 2-3 pre-selected current
events headlines. Afterwards the floor will be open to anyone and
everyone who wants to bring up any other topic/headline that they want
to to discuss.

The headlines for this Thursday's forum will be:
-The election of Barrack Obama as the 44th President of the USA.
Discuss what it means to you and what the next 4 (8?) years may be like.
-The closing of the Guantanamo Bay detention center. "About time" or
"Bad idea"?

Internationalist Books has always been about the free sharing of
ideas, so please don't think twice about sharing your own ideas (no
matter what position you are taking) at our Current Events Forum. Tell
your friends and your enemies to come sit and chat with other ibooks
members, volunteers and community members about what's going on in the
world.

2) USED BOOK BONANZA!

We've just received a huge infusion of exciting used titles. We've
got dozens of thought-provoking books and authors newly added to the
US Politics and History, Marxism, Anarchism, Classics, Ecology, and
many other sections... and they're all dirt cheap! Check us out
between 11 and 8 every Monday through Saturday or 12 to 6 on Sunday to
get first dibs on the latest stock.

3) MORE UPCOMING EVENTS!

All events take place at the Internationalist (405 W. Franklin St.)
unless otherwise noted.

THURS, 1/29, 7 PM: CURRENT EVENTS FORUM: "OBAMA AND GUANTANAMO"
See above!

WED, 2/11, 7 PM: JAMES PROTZMAN READS FROM "JESUS SWEPT"!
Join us for this exciting literary event as Chapel Hill resident and
longtime Internationalist supporter James Protzman reads from his
brand new novel, "Jesus Swept".

The unlikely tale of hope lost, found and lost again on the North
Carolina coast, "Jesus Swept" celebrates a philosophy of life you can
put on a bumper sticker, with Hook, Sinker, Liz, Frank, Dog, and Jesus
himself, six souls twisted in a tangle of family threads that will
make you cry until you laugh - or until you try dying.

James Protzman is a freelance business writer and a blogger based
right here in Chapel Hill. For more information about the book and the
author, visit http://www.jamesprotzman.com.

THURS, 2/26, 8 PM: ALCAZAR HOTEL ACOUSTIC CD RELEASE SHOW!
Join us at the Internationalist for an exciting night of music with
local band Alcazar Hotel!

Featuring new Internationalist volunteer Will Dawson on vocals and
bass, Alcazar Hotel brings a hard-driving, fun loving rock'n'roll
sound with punk, surf, and rockabilly influences. They'll be playing
an unplugged acoustic set to celebrate the release of their brand new
debut album. The fully amplified CD release show will be later on that
night at Reservoir in Carrboro at 10 PM.

Check 'em out at www.myspace.com/thealcazarhotel. See you there!

ONGOING EVENTS:

INTERNATIONALIST PRISON BOOKS COLLECTIVE
The Internationalist sponsors a program that sends free books and
literature to people incarcerated in Mississippi and Alabama. Since
2006 the Books to Prisoners collective has mailed educational
materials to thousands of prisoners, building solidarity with networks
of activists inside and out of prison agitating for justice and
alternatives to the prison system, while meeting a direct and urgent
need. There are many ways to get involved:

-Come fill requests at the weekly book-wrapping, which takes place
every Sunday from 1-4 PM at 218 N. Graham St. in Chapel Hill.

-DONATE books by dropping them off at the Internationalist!
Particularly in demand are dictionaries, thesauruses, African-American
history, culture, and fiction, self-help, Spanish language,
GED/education, and more (paperbacks only).

For more information, check out www.prisonbooks.info.

NEW LOCAL SKILLSHARE / FREE SKOOL!

Do you like to make stuff, learn things, and teach others? A local
Skillshare/DIY/Art Collective, Free Skool, Radical Event Bulletin, and
Space/Material/Tool Share is being formed. This is a way for local
creative types to find each other to make and do stuff together. There
are a lot of innovative, skilled, and imaginative people in this area.
Let's pool our knowledge, skills, and resources to exponentialize our
creative input and output. So if you want to make masks or soap or
vegan liqueurs or a rope ladder or a mud oven or collaged formal wear
or tamales or hula hoops or pretty much anything else, or find others
to play soccer or practice tai chi with, or host a workshop on blowing
glass or screen-printing, or organize a potluck or salon, or just put
out an idea to the community; check this thing out. This is a way to
get your desires out of your head and into the awareness of lots of
other like-minded local people. Let's get together for the artistic
and practical. This is completely non-commercial and local. The
website is http://people.tribe.net/papokha. (Please email
papokha AT gmail.com to make postings or with any questions.)
